A New Journey

Well, I’ve cleaned my blog of all the old posts and I’m now ready to start my new journey.  I started working this week as the Instructional Technology Specialist for Cape Girardeau public schools.  I’m excited to meet the teachers and begin working with them on the exciting changes taking place next year, and what a lot of changes!  We are starting a 1:1 program 9-12, migrating to the wonderful world of Google and Gmail, continuing work on the district PLC, and beginning our use of Infinite Campus.  Whew!  However, teachers are a resilient bunch, and when you look at the amazing benefits these changes give on student engagement, collaboration, global publication, and differentiated instruction it’s easy to see that it’s not about us.  It’s about the students.  Students in today’s world are digital natives.  They are learning in a digital world with an unlimited resource at their fingertips at all times.  To prepare this generation to be truly college and career ready we must teach them the skills necessary to be successful in a digitally connected world.   This process shouldn’t take away the skills of writing, social interactions, and creative thinking but rather enhance them.

My goal is to use this blog as not only a discussion board for all things related to instructional technology, but also as a resource site.  I look forward to sharing all the successes from the Cape teachers and students as we take this journey together.
